As Chairman of the Firefighters Institute for Racial Equality (F.I.R.E), I am honored to welcome you to our official website. Since its founding, F.I.R.E has been at the forefront of advocating for justice, equity, and opportunity within the St. Louis Fire Department, and the broader fire service. Our mission is not just about addressing disparities—it is about ensuring that every firefighter, emergency medical technician, paramedic, and dispatcher has the same access to opportunity, professional growth, and fair treatment, regardless of race.
Our ongoing efforts focus on four critical areas: hiring, retention, promotions, and fairness. We are committed to holding leadership accountable, ensuring transparency in promotional processes, and challenging any systemic barriers that limit opportunities for Black men and women in the fire service. Through consistent engagement, legal advocacy, and policy reform, we continue to push for a department that reflects the diversity and talent of the community it serves.
Looking to the future, F.I.R.E is committed to expanding career pathways for Black men and women who have a passion for public service and emergency response. Whether through mentorship, outreach, or training programs, we will work to connect individuals with the resources, guidance, and support they need to enter and thrive in careers as firefighters, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and emergency dispatchers. Our goal is not just to increase representation but to ensure that those who enter the fire service have the tools and support necessary to succeed and advance.
This website is more than just a digital presence—it is a resource, a platform for engagement, and a hub for information and advocacy. We encourage you to explore, stay informed, and become actively involved in the fight for fairness and equality in the fire service. The progress we seek will not come without effort, but together, through collective action and unwavering commitment, we will continue to build a fire department that values diversity, integrity, and excellence.
Thank you for your support and dedication to this cause. F.I.R.E stands strong because of the unity and resilience of our members and allies.
